Bethesda Game Studios’ Todd Howard revealed the release window for Starfield’s first expansion, Shattered Space, during an interview with Kinda Funny Games earlier this week.

Howard was discussing an upcoming update focused on improving Starfield’s ship building features for players who love that aspect of the game when he was asked if these improvements would be coming with the game’s Shattered Space expansion, to which he replied, “This is a separate update. Shattered Space is in the fall.”

We don’t have a hard release date just yet, but the additional clarity is always welcome. As for the ship building update? Howard promised more details on that would be coming this week.

Howard also discussed the still missing Starfield Creation Kit during the interview, to which he noted that content creators have beta access to the kit currently, but wasn’t able to provide a release date just yet. The best we got was that players would be hearing about it more “soon.” For context, Skyrim’s Creation Kit was released just three months after the game released and Fallout 4 received its kit five months post-launch. It’s been roughly eight months since Starfield released and we still don’t have a clue when the tools will finally get into players’ hands.

It also remains to be seen how popular modding Starfield will be even when the tools do release. At least one high profile Skyrim modder has already given up on the game before the tools even drop.
