Bethesda teased its “biggest Starfield update yet” on its X/Twitter page today. This major patch, likely the largest of many released by the studio and publisher already, addresses “over 100 fixes and improvements.”
The full details of the Starfield patch aren’t shared yet, but the X/Twitter thread give a small sampling of what’s to come. The thread specifically calls out “a multitude of fixes to Quests,” as well as some to Eye of the Storm preventing players from progressing.
More importantly to some players are a slew of visual and performance updates. One tweet shows a preview of the latter, with deepened shadows and highlights on a character, as well as improved textures (though these are notably in the character creator).
Additionally, this update brings stability improvements and numerous graphic improvements ranging from additional widescreen support to improved textures, lighting, and shadows. Before / After ?? pic.twitter.com/aYf6V7yOKY

The studio also teases several other major fixes throughout the game, such as “sun disk geometry, planet ring shadows, bulldozed objects reappearing when returning to an Outpost, ship hatches marked inaccessible, and another fix for asteroids following ships.”
This is only a preview for now; according to the thread, the rollout will be gradual when it starts on January 17th. The update will first go live on Steam Beta, along with a full list of updates and fixes. Other platforms and consoles, such as Xbox Gaming’s PC and Xbox players, will follow.
The fixes are a likely welcome for fans. While at release, the game received widespread praise, including from our own team, the standard Bethesda scale of release bugs unveiled itself as time went on. However, it maintains a loyal fanbase, eager for more of many improvement updates as well as an upcoming expansion to be released this year.
