This week, several months since Broadsword Online Games took over development of Star Wars: The Old Republic, studio president Rob Denton introduced himself and gave some details on how things are going now that SWTOR has come under its umbrella. Executive Producer Keith Kanneg also gave a progress update on upcoming patches.
Denton refers back to his own time at BioWare and his previous work on Star Wars: The Old Republic up through the game’s 2011 launch. For those who may have been concerned at the switch in development teams, having someone leading the studio that helped in the early days has to help.
While there have been changes, and cuts to staff, Denton also takes the time to reassure the community that the shared vision for SWTOR continues under collaborative efforts. Executive Producer Keith Kanneg “sets the vision for the game, and he’ll continue to maintain the relationship with Lucasfilm Games and Electronic Arts. Keith and I will work closely together to ensure that SWTOR continues to grow, thrive and be the amazing game that you all love,” he says, before turning the post over to Kanneg himself.
Continuing the optimism shared when the announcement was made about the studio change, Keith Kanneg discusses some of what we can expect from the future. The team has launched several technological improvements, including the transition to cloud game servers, following update 7.3, Old Wounds. They are at work on update 7.4, and we will be getting a peek at what's coming in 7.4 next week.
The team will hold a special livestream on October 18th at 1:30 PM Central / 6:30 PM UTC. Kanneg and others will unveil what we can expect in the next big content patch.
