Star Wars Galaxies' Restoration 3 server goes live today, and with it another way to relive the venerable MMO thanks to the work of its emulation community.
Star Wars Galaxies' Restoration III server blends mechanics from across its history, with the best of Combat Upgrade and NGE at players' disposal. This brings much of the gameplay people fell in love with more than a decade ago, though the team does say it addresses "systemic problems that persisted in the live version of the game."

The fan-created Restoration 3 server is finally opening for business today. Some notable changes you might want to be aware of when you start your journey is that while Jedi is a class in Galaxies, the R3 team has made it more of a rare thing, making it unlockable through gameplay itself. Restoraion 3 also includes the full pre-NGE skill system, though all NGE heroic instances are in the game through server-wide events.
Other features include a fully implemented Jump to Lightspeed, reworked mechanics to, as the press release puts it "ensure players are the driving force of the market" when it comes to its player economy, and more. To celebrate the team's launch of the server, players who create a character this weekend will receive a custom R3 Golden Cybernetic plaque to use in their player house, as well as an xp-boosting in-game shirt.
The Star Wars Galaxies Restoration 3 server goes live officially at 6pm Central time/7pm Eastern/4pm Pacific, with players able to register in advance should you want to hop in. You can check out more on the official website.
