The latest recap for Star Citizen covered how opening up the game’s Public Test Universe for Alpha 3.17.2 led to some decisions on expanding capacity.
The PTU was opened to all backers this time around and the team at Cloud Imperium Games now notes that with this more widely accessible test phase, they were actively testing increased server caps from 75 to 120 players per server. The team previously said that they were not looking to increase player cap on the live servers, but the testing went so well that they are now exploring the idea for the live release of 3.17.2.
“Those of you who joined the PTU will have also seen that we tested several new player caps from 75 to 120 players per server. Now, I know that we previously said we had no plans for an increase in player cap on the live servers... however the results of said tests have been so promising, that things have changed. For this reason, we are now exploring increasing the cap for the live release of Alpha 3.17.2. We're still testing/reviewing and will share more information, including what cap we end up going with, very soon.”
Of course, with development still in alpha, these changes, once announced, will be subject to changes as more data comes through.
There’s also a mention of the Battle of the Bricks charity event that took place on Friday. The event is now available to watch over on the Star Citizen YouTube channel and features community teams from Star Citizen and EVE Online competing to build ships and overcome a series of odd challenges in order to win and raise money for Children’s Miracle Network. While the charity stream is now over, the donation page will be open through the end of the year.
