By this time, we know that it’s a difficult time to be working in the games industry. Recent reports are saying that Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium Games is one of the latest to be hit with layoffs and cuts.

The reported layoffs come after a former employee stated that the company had been laying off employees. “Former employer is letting a lot of staff go over the last two days with zero compensation right after working them to the bone without even much as a thanks". These layoffs were supposed to have taken place just after the most recent CitizenCon, which followed reports of mandatory crunch.

The reports come from Insider Gaming, which cited the former employee’s post on X and confirmed with their own sources, “Cloud Imperium Games has been letting some of its staff go these past couple of days” and that, while the numbers are reportedly about a dozen, and mostly in QA none of these figures are yet confirmed.

This latest report follows one from earlier this year where key members of the team, including the Game Director and some other senior staff, were let go. CIG responded to us to confirm those layoffs and that relocation and restructuring were factors, as well as what seems like a return to office mandate.

Star Citizen recently reached a new crowdfunding record total, crossing $750 million. They confirmed this new record at the recent IAE event.
