A new patch has been released for Star Citizen, offering a hefty selection of new content and updates to already existing elements of the game.
The update, released by developer Cloud Imperium Games yesterday (August 29), adds new elevators to make navigating hangars easier for players, while also allowing players to decorate their own hangars with new in-game tools. In addition to this, several new hauling and racing missions have been added to the game, which allows players to prove their superiority in a galaxy filled with players vying to be the very best around.
A new global event will allow players who would rather work together to team up, taking down a collection of pirate ships who have stolen goods from an orbital station, and returning the goods to said station.
“Cargo hauling and supply logistics offer the perfect counterbalance to the more action-filled professions in the ‘verse. There’s a serenity and sense of purpose traveling through space with a full load of cargo and pile of credits waiting for your arrival. As we prepare for the dangers of the Pyro system, mastering both combat and non-combat professions will be key to ensuring that players can help keep humanity well supplied and ready for the challenges ahead.”
-Chris Roberts, Star Citizen Creative Director
Star Citizen has been in development for over a decade now, with a crowdfunding campaign for the game first starting in September 2012. It has faced a large amount of criticism over that time, primarily owing to the fact that there’s still no real release date for the game, despite being originally planned for 2014. Since then, the developer has also begun development on a standalone single-player title, Squadron 42, which originally began life as part of Star Citizen itself, before it was decided to spin-off the game into an episodic title featuring actors such as Gary Oldman, Mark Hillian, Gillian Anderson and John Rhys-Davies, among many other big names.
