If The Game Awards are of any indication, it’s a great era in video gaming for co-op game enjoyers—and the Overcooked team, well, cooked on a new one. Stage Fright is a new co-op horror-themed (but not quite horrific) adventure by the team behind Overcooked announced last night during The Game Awards.
In this two-player game, players can play either online or side-by-side—or in “split-screen multiplayer,” as it’s classically called—to adventure through spooky, unique worlds. The Steam page for Stage Fright promises the same kinds of co-op chaos that comes with Overcooked, plus accessible and approachable challenges for skills focused “in the mind, not the finger-tips”.
There’s no full plot to be seen yet, but Stage Fright promises a “charming coming-of-age story with real heart and memorable characters” as players swap between its protagonists, Drew, Blake and Charlie.
Notably on the development side, it seems that No Man’s Sky studio Hello Games took up the helm of publishing for Overcooked’s Ghost Town Games, so the prospects are likely bright here.
The execution of the trailer was rather nifty, too, utilizing the full LED screen at The Game Awards to create an effect of the characters being in the real world.
The Steam page is up for wishlisting and more details.
