Directly citing the unstable US tariff situation, the Square Enix Store, which sells the massive company’s official merchandise, announced that it’s pausing pre-orders for certain merchandise. This includes merchandise for such games as Final Fantasy 14, Final Fantasy 7, the NieR franchise, and more.
The statement at the top of the Merchandise section of the North America Square Enix Store reads: “Effective April 9, 2025: In light of ongoing international tariff uncertainties, we have decided to temporarily pause some new merchandise pre-orders. We appreciate your understanding and support.”
Besides this note, there hasn’t been any clarity on the situation, including which Square Enix Store products have been paused. However, when certain items are clicked on, a standard “Pre-Order Now” or “Buy Now” button has greyed out to “Currently Unavailable” instead.
So far, it seems the paused pre-orders span a large breadth of merch across multiple games, including vinyl records, figures, clothing, jewelry, plush dolls, and more from the Final Fantasy and NieR franchises. The biggest-ticket items that are down are a necklace worn by Garnet/Dagger from Final Fantasy 9 and a 10-inch Good Smile Company figure of Lightning from Final Fantasy 13.
The note regarding suspension of shipments does not pop up on the European iteration of the Square Enix Store, assumingly because its nations’ tariffs are not in a constant state of vibes-based flux.
