Developer Spry Fox, a studio known for games like the Alphabear series and Cozy Grove, has been acquired by Netflix. In the acquisition announcement, it was also revealed that the company is working on a new MMO project.

The studio’s existing games will still be available on all current platforms, according to the announcement. As for future development, the Netflix deal should give them some funding and space to continue, as Netflix continues building its footprint in the gaming space. As for those future projects, it does seem that lighter fare is still in the works, as “Spry Fox was already focused on making Cozy Grove 2 as well as a larger, non-violent MMO that we still haven’t revealed much about publicly, and that is still the case”.

There isn’t much out on that MMO project, but in the past, Spry Fox has released titles like Steambirds Alliance, which was an “MMO Bullet-hell” title released in 2019 and later shut down in 2020.

So it’s notable that this new MMO effort will be non-violent. And yet it fits, since most of Spry Fox’ games, and its bigger successes, have been in the cozier game spaces, with titles like Alphabear and its sequel, and as mentioned, Cozy Grove.
