Soulframe got its own new devstream, and Digital Extremes revealed that Preludes, including release window, expanded access, new details, and changes on the way.
Soulframe Preludes is the game’s pre-alpha, and access will begin opening up to the public sometime in 2025. Current players will begin seeing a series of changes, including expanded access to the playtest before the big public date. Invites are still going out, and if you receive an invite email, you will also later get new shareable codes to give your friends and family. Each player who is in the test will receive four codes.
The team showed off some live gameplay, and mentioned positive updates about development progress. Considering that Soulframe is still in pre-alpha, this new stream gave them a chance to show off just how much they’ve done since the initial announcements at TennoCon.
The game will be playable solo, but they're making it as a co-op game so playing with friends is intended to be a fuller experience. They're not calling it open world, because Some associate the term with a negative experience so they want to leave people more open-minded. Plus, there are some progression gating elements. So it’s a dense overworld, with lots to explore and discover.
“Co-op fantasy looter” they call it at one point, saying that the MMO-lite elements are there or in planning, and more elements like towns are on the way. They did present the weather system that they're including, and show off things like improved combat animations. there's less sliding going on.
Sparrow’s Tales are a series of overworld encounters that will offer Opportunities around the map to take on challenges for valuable loot. The next Preludes update will add a new one, and we can expect the list to grow over time. We also get a look into a slice of Alca, five weapons that you can unlock, and additional changes coming to the combat system, progression, and even visual upgrades.
There’s a lot on the way, and the full devstream goes into detail and shows off some of these elements. We're almost in November, so 2025 is just around the corner.
