Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida has dashed the hopes of Fortnite players hoping for true crossplay between all of the available platforms. The company has been under a lot of pressure from Epic and the Fortnite community to open up full cross play on all platforms. While the PS4 version of Fortnite is crossplay-compatible with PC and mobile, it is not with XBox One and Switch. In a recent interview, Yoshida said that "PlayStation is the best place to play".
On cross-platform, our way of thinking is always that PlayStation is the best place to play. Fortnite, I believe, partnered with PlayStation 4 is the best experience for users, that’s our belief. But actually, we already opened some games as cross-platform with PC and some others, so we decide based on what is the best user experience. That is our way of thinking for cross-platform.
Yoshida further explained that the decision to implement cross play between PS4 and other platforms is made on a game-by-game basis. "We decide based on what is the best user experience," he said.
