The latest preview by the team making Profane covers weapons. The peek comes with a short clip of concept art showing off a number of the weapon types the game will have. Some of these were simply brought over from pre-alpha without needing much work. Additionally, there’s a little look into the design process and goals for the upcoming sandbox.
Because Profane is intended as a sandbox, but also an action combat MMORPG, weapons are very important. The wide variety of options and designs is an intentional design choice that, if they bring things together the way they intend to, will both look and feel appropriate to its use.
These perks range from passives (that don't need to be set as one of your active skills), to active elemental skills related to that weapon, which will have to be put in your active skills build in order to be used. We can't wait to show you some these and test them with you! pic.twitter.com/iR6hA3K5pv— Profane MMORPG (@ProfaneMMO) June 16, 2022
Another one of the team’s weapons design philosophy involves making different items feel distinct and some extra special. Since the game won’t have any strict class systems and instead be all up to the player, there will be room to try out what interests you.
The plan is for players to be able to switch freely between two equipped weapon stances during combat. If you want to swap again, it will have to be out of combat. Weapons will also have attributes, with different stats for damage, range, attack speed, as well as the animation.
Some of these weapons will have special bonuses or features, and the preview brings up the pre-alpha recurve bow, which has a 50% increased chance to crit when it is fully drawn. There's also a spear in pre-alpha that had a 10% chance to ignore the target's armor.
There are also plans for weapons to have their own proficiency tables, and if you increase your proficiency level with a certain weapon, you can unlock new perks. Some of these might be passive, and some of these might be active elemental skills that you will have to choose but could give you some real power.
