Smite 2 revealed its latest god to join the roster: Mordred, and he has a single-minded, brutal ruthlessness as a new hybrid fighter coming to alpha.
Infamous as the slayer of King Arthur (and said to be his nephew or even illegitimate son), the developers chose to pick up at the end of Mordred’s story “to write a new ending”. The Arthurian intrigue, power struggle, and actions remain the same, but now, all of that has left Mordred with a new affliction and an unleashed wrath. His skill set reflects the Hunter seeking to take down prey.
His core theme is Dark Knight. How this inspired his look is in a new devblog revealing concept art and more about the new addition. Mordred wears his heavy armor, with his armor also torn where he was struck in battle and one of his two swords, Mourning, also displays his beating heart, and focuses on Strength. Clarent, his other sword, focuses on intelligence.
His supporting themes: Wrath, Ruthless Leader, and Malevolent Combatant and inform design. In other words, they're not holding back on him being a cruel and evil force that wants to tear everyone. No going back, no redemption, just ruthless wrath.
Putting all of those rather strong concepts along with his core theme gave the team a challenge on how to accomplish their design goals, including his skills.
“He is poised, an unquestionably skilled fighter but he was also mortally defeated once and that will NOT happen again. Mordred is prepared and wary but he is also willing to let his anger provide him the strength he needs to win by any means necessary.”
Mordred enters Smite 2 as a hybrid fighter where his abilities will scale with strength, intelligence, or both. One of his abilities has a special bonus scaling mechanism, Protection Scaling. Even his basic attack chain has strength and intelligence scaling. He has a passive that makes use of the interact feature in the game but it's designed to be used in active combat. His empowered ultimate, for which you gain new resource, Wrath, over time to fuel, “allows Mordred to go through the world to hunt his prey”
