Before 24/7 closed alpha on August 27th, the Smite 2 team unveiled more details as well as a brand new  video deep dive into the sequel’s rebuilt matchmaking system.

“MOBA Specific Matchmaking” is what we can look forward to, in a way that tracks and uses multiple aspects of players’ skills are taken into account.  The first game, like many, uses a single skill for matchmaking. Titan Forge Wants to change that and in the video we get a look at how.

Smite 2’s system uses factors like players' roles, and their performance in those roles, to match players on a more equal level. This is part of their goal to make the experience more fun in the sequel. You start by ranking the roles from 1-5,  making your preferences and how you prefer to play part of the personalized matchmaking. This should increase the chance of getting a role that you like and can be successful at for a good team experience, and less likely that you'll get assigned to something you don't want to play.

Using your role preference rankings, in addition to how you actually play in those roles, should help matchups be more equal and more fun. It also keeps people honest because maybe you love to play a role but you kind of suck at it, so as much as you love it, taking into account your skill with that role helps so you don't get matched to a team that you would be dead weight on. You should have more fun and teams should have more fun when matches happen.

The system also comes with a remade lobby, and stability improvements like a backfill system that should address some of the first game’s crash issues.

Now that we're familiar with the new matchmaking system, everyone should be more prepared for the opening of 24/7 Closed Alpha.
