SMITE 2 was announced by Titan Forge Games and Hi-Rez Studios, bringing the next evolution of the MOBA series to PC, console, and Steam Deck. Built using Unreal Engine 5, Titan Forge Games states that the sequel to the God battling MOBA "distills ten years of learning" into the upcoming sequel.

SMITE was originally launched in 2014 on PC as a new entry point for MOBA players looking for something different from League of Legends or DOTA. A third-person MOBA, players take control of various Gods and the occasional anime or cartoon character, such as the cast of Avatar: The Last Airbender for starters, and take out the opposing team while defending your structures.

SMITE 2 aims to build on this formula, bringing a better user interface, new abilities, clearer spell effects, and more. Additionally, Titan Forge Games says that they've improved the backend tech for the MOBA, bringing cross-play to the experience, as well as new tiers and structures in the rework of its ranked mode.

The trailer certainly looks clearer and more refined than the original experience, though the reveal trailer gameplay highlights the same action-combat, third-person gameplay SMITE has been known for. If it ain't fixed, don't break it, yea?

For those who have spent plenty of time and money on the OG SMITE, Titan Forge Games assures players that it will continue supporting the original as they work on and release the sequel. With 40 million players, Hi-Rez and Titan Forge continuing on the original seems like a no-brainer to not ostracize the player base. Interestingly, the company announced what it is calling a Divine Legacy program to reward and "honor" the time players put into SMITE 1.

According to the developers, Gems players have purchased will convert to Legacy Gems in SMITE 2, which can then be spent on new purchases in the new game. Additionally, the companies are launching cross-generation skins, which will work in both versions of the MOBA.

You can learn more from the keynote reveal embedded below. SMITE 2 hasn't been given a release date, but it will be released on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X. You can register to alpha test SMITE 2 this year on the website.
