Sky: Children of the Light Shares 2024 Development Roadmap

A look at the flight ahead this year

In a blog post this week, the developers of Sky: Children of the Light have shared what’s ahead for Sky in 2024, teasing in spurts a slew of features and upcoming events.

For instance, it sounds like some sort of housing feature will be coming, as Thatgamecompany is claiming dreams will come true “for those of you who have daydreamed about your own living space in Sky.” There’s currently a home “hub,” but it’s not like the “housing” that many MMORPGs have, which are a huge point of creativity—something that Sky centers much of its theming around.

There’ll be more festivals and events, and more takes on past festivals and events. It’ll start off with a return to Aviary Village and sprawl out to return to classic festivals (and even remixes of certain ones). The team says the 2022 AURORA concert inspired them to find a way to interact with players on a one-on-one basis, and so this’ll likely be integrated into future events.

As part of their goal to make the game more playable to both solo players and social ones, a new teased quest system looks to bring back old NPCs, “making them a more robust and deeper part of your day-to-day experience.” The team says this was “inspired by early versions of Daily Quests,” meaning it’ll likely allow players to run solo quests more often.

Quality-of-life updates are also a major focus in this roadmap. Sky looks to update more features in ways that’ll allow more interactions whether or not friends and other players are online, including sending and receiving Hearts and seeing friends’ Creations. There’ll also be UI changes for emotes, server fixes, and better alignment of patches between platforms so everyone stays on the same patch. Of course, a cherry on top is the promise of more dev blogs.

Sky also aims to launch on PC this year via Steam, as it previously announced, though there’s already a demo on the Steam page. Currently, the “cozy” MMORPG is available on Android, iOS, Switch and Playstation.
