Sky: Children of the Light held its in-person fifth anniversary events over the weekend, drawing more than 300k fans for the events in Tokyo, Japan, and Chengdu, China. A new streaming component in-game attracted more than 700k concurrent players who experienced the event this way.
Developer thatgamecompany announced SkyFest Cinema, which is designed to be an immersive experience that supports up to 10,000 players in the same lobby. Everyone who participated this way was able to view some of the developer talks and other videos and announcements that were featured at the two in-person events.
The next major Sky collaboration will be with Moomin, with characters from the classic books and comics heading to Sky for an event this fall. The event will take inspiration from the 1962 Tales of Moominvalley and tell the tale of Ninny, “The Invisible Child”. More details will be coming later.
The team also announced details for the animated series, Sky: The Two Embers, Announcing a 2025 release that will happen with two in-game season events. There's also a new retrospective art book on the way.
Sky will also overhaul daily quests. We can expect updates on how you get daily quests and complete them, overhauls to the whole quest system, and more quests and activities that will see you spending meaningful time with Spirits. We can also expect more variety in quest rewards, shorter development time to new quests, and including new formats. Spirits Will interact with you and befriend you the more time you spend with them and unlock more things when you become best friends. All of these changes will roll out over a period of time, with the first step being some quality of life improvements and brand new quests.
SkyFest in game continues through Friday, July 26th. Among the activities include ways to relive some of previous seasonal content, some of which had been only accessible through purchasing season exclusive magical capes. Some of the exclusive content you can relive include the concert with Aurora, the Little Prince asteroid ride, andthe Nine-Colored Deer meetup.
