Skull and Bones was released earlier this year on PC via Ubisoft Connect and the Epic Games Store, and now it's Steam's turn, with the release slated for next month.

After suffering countless delays throughout its long development history, Skull and Bones finally launched earlier this year to lukewarm reviews. Despite the muted response, Ubisoft is not slowing down when it comes to releasing new content, such as Season Two which comes with a plethora of events and new content, as well as this new launch on Steam in just a few weeks.

Initially, Skull and Bones was only available on PC through Ubisoft Connect and the Epic Games Store, so getting thrown onto another platform could boost the player base in theory. Skull and Bones apparently hit record player counts after launch, reaching around 850k players in its first week according to Insider Gaming, it’ll be interesting to note whether the launch on Steam will bring players into the pirate-themed multiplayer experience who might not have checked it out otherwise.

Skull and Bones was first announced way back at E3 2017, and since then, it wallowed in development hell over the years. After being delayed multiple times, it finally launched onto PC and consoles earlier this year, though the reception wasn’t exactly what Ubisoft was hoping for. Our reviewer thought it had a certain charm, but felt very lackluster overall, dinging it for grindy progression, the lack of actual swashbuckling in a pirate game, and more.
