Ubisoft has released more details about “Death Tides,” the new PvP-focused game modes coming to Skull and Bones. With this launch, there’ll be two modes: the team deathmatch Fleetfire and the king of the hill-style Tidebreaker.
Fleetfire is essentially the classic team deathmatch present in multiplayer games. Players will be split between teams, which will change in size depending on the map, and earn points depending on kill count. The winning team will be the one that hits a certain number of points first or that has the higher score when time runs out.
Tidebreaker is called a “hardpoint” mode, with a point-based king of the hill style. After the match starts, one control point at a time will open, and players will need to claim and defend it while earning points. The points will accumulate depending on how many people are in the zone, but if more opponents than defenders hold it, the point will flip.
If you can’t decide which to join, it seems there’s a Quick Play option that’ll throw you in. There are also separate rewards earnable through Death Tides matches. More details, including how to unlock these, are outlined on the official dev blog about Death Tides.
Death Tides is the next release on the pirate RPG’s 2025 roadmap unveiled earlier this year, as well as the new World Tiers that will give PvE players more of a challenge. This year will also see an escalation of the naval corporate wars in the game’s semi-passive storyline.
