After resurfacing a couple of months ago and setting a November release date, Ubisoft has once again delayed pirate MMO Skull and Bones. The game has been moved to March 2023.
For anyone who's been watching the development of Skull and Bones over the past several years is probably not surprised by another delay. This one, however, is for the team to have additional time for final polish.
“Our team is hard at work polishing and balancing the experience ahead of the worldwide launch. As a result, we’ve made the tough decision to move our release date to March 9, 2023. We’re very eager for you all to get your hands on Skull and Bones and dive in headfirst to the dangerous and exciting world of building your own pirate empire. To give you the best possible experience we’ve decided to take a little more time to make sure we can deliver exactly that.”
However, in the delay announcement, there was a bit of a consolation for anyone eager to get into the pirate business. There will be an open beta of the game "in the near future". No window was given for when this might start, but the announcement says that there will be details coming soon on the game’s social media accounts.
Ubisoft Singapore has delayed Skull and Bones several times, and the game has reportedly undergone some direction shifts during that time. Things had been quiet on the development front for a long time, until just a couple of months ago. With some trailers, a presence at the recent Ubisoft Forward, detailed guides, and a PC specs and customization announcement, it did seem like things were finally coming together for launch.
Now, of course, there will be a few more months until you can take to the seas.
