Skull and Bones kicked off its first Season, “Raging Tides” yesterday, With a number of quality of life improvements, and brand new content. The Ubisoft Singapore team has also shared a new devblog about the season pass and monetization.

Now that Season 1 is here, the team will be adding season events throughout, where you will encounter and fight against Philippe La Peste and his Fleet of Pestilence.  Eventually, players will get a chance to seek out  his base for a huge boss battle to conclude the season. But for now, there will be a number of world events happening regularly, including Merchant Convoys to test your ability to secure and take some high-value loot along trade routes, new bounties, and even a chance to take on the giant sea monster, Zamaharibu. Beware the sea monster, because it’s sure to be a challenge, based on beta stats.

With a new game and a new season, there comes a battle pass. In Skull and Bones, this is called a Smuggler Pass, and through those world events and other ways you'll be able to acquire new gameplay items and other rewards. These can include ship customization options, vanity items, pets, and blueprints. As with many battle passes, there is a free version that you can play through with just the base game, and a premium pass. There are over 90 rewards in total, with 60 on the free track. If you buy the season premium pass and complete it, you will earn enough gold to buy next season's pass as well.

The team also touches on monetization, vowing that everything will be cosmetic, with an emphasis on customization options and extras. You can earn silver in-game to use on many items and gold through the premium pass or by buying currency. There’s even a preview of some of the things we can expect to see, and there’s a lot of ship items, color options, a couple of pets (a cat and a lemur in pirate attire), along with fireworks and more.
