Shiro Games continues their devblog series for their upcoming space exploration survival game SpaceCraft. After introducing us to resources and mining last time, now we get a look at the process to open up new crafting options, modules, and services.
The devblog walks us through refining collected raw materials to unlock your first permit: the Modular Systems permit. Decisions have to be made in refining, based on factors like ratio of return, and inventory usage. We also get our first taste of crafting, in the process to create the Scanalyzer Alpha.
Permits are the mechanic by which all of this happens, and while it sounds bureaucratic, it's more of a tech tree that unlocks different branches and options as you progress. In fact, Permits and Experience are the key systems for progression in the game. The Modular Systems permit gives you access to the shipyard and certain blueprints.
The shipyard is instanced, so you can work without interruption, but in the co-op multiplayer survival game, some locations will be open, and others will be instanced in different ways. The devs plan to talk more in the future about instancing versus open content.
