The Ship of Heroes team is sharing how the game’s art direction and story work together, demonstrated by some new in-game footage.
Video (from the current build) and screenshots illustrate how the team has worked to create a consistent and cohesive whole in Ship of Heroes, while making the technical side of a fun game where all of these aesthetic choices fit.
Creating a sci-fi superhero MMORPG likely brings a few things to mind. The overall art design is something that needs to fit the theme and the tone of the game, and there are a number of other decisions that need to be made. Aesthetics set the tone and mood, but they also have to fit the mechanics of missions or a 50-person raid.
“As a hero, you'll find yourself in conflict with many groups, for many reasons. Murderous space aliens. Cunning cyborg kidnappers. Secret societies. Gruff mercenaries willing to do dirty deeds for the right price. And the list goes on... The beautiful environments support this story dynamic, showing you what most heroes are fighting for.”
Then there is the balancing act that is tailoring visuals for performance and aesthetics, supporting different machines, and offering options to make that possible. As Ship of Heroes heads towards launch, the new blog will get you ready.
