Heroic Games has a new development update for Ship of Heroes, this time focusing on Auras. Auras are part of the superhero character creator that have grown and changed as they've gotten deeper into development.
The team started off with five available auras and now they have 30. In a new video along with a devblog, they show off some of the available choices. Maybe you want your character to being very noticeable and covered in flames, maybe you want to be a little less obvious and have them surrounded by a swirling pattern of energy particles. You can use available auras to let people know right away what kind of hero has just entered the scene. Or perhaps something less obvious.
Visual indicators can help with communicating what kind of hero you're playing, and adding a visual element like this can also add an additional layer that goes beyond other aspects of your costume or superhero’s overall look.
When it comes to a superhero game, there's a built-in level of immersion that a lot of people are familiar with around the world, and these visual elements only create more storytelling opportunities and can even make roleplaying better.
Another example given in the blog is the possibility of a united team. Playing with friends or family might look like making superheroes in the same costume and using the same aura, In similar costumes but using the same aura to tie it all together.
Auras will be in the character creator, and most will have two customizable colors, with some designs having just one color. You’re not tied to the same Aura, either, so feel free to try some out until you nail the right one. You can change it at any time. Maybe your character separates from their team at some point or maybe something truly changes them. Ship of Heroes is emphasizing the many possible options.
