A new blog post has cropped up on the Star Trek Online site to give captains the good news that ship customization is coming in Season 11.5. Using the new Visuals tab, players will be able to deck out ships with Deflectors, Impulse Engines and Shields that will apply a visual effect to the ship that doesn't make use of the items' stats or set bonuses. According to the devs, this allows players to use the items most beneficial to their play style without sacrificing a look that they prefer.
On a side note, Priority One interviewed Al Rivera who also revealed the following:
- 11.5 continues to prepare for the 50th anniversary of the original TV series
- there is a possibility of a queue rotation, though no official word when that may (or may not) come
- accolades may be overhauled this year, but it is acknowledged that it needs attention
- R&D updates, cost reductions, a new crafting school, new recipes and more are considered high priority, though they are not yet on the schedule
- an exploration system is also high priority and will take time to implement
- IF a new faction happens, it's "likely" to be Cardassians or possibly Borg or Jem'Hadar
