Seekers of Skyveil will enter closed beta this September. Elodie Games announced the next phase along with a brand new dev video and details on this week’s new North American playtest.
Announcing the closed beta means that they've gotten the core gameplay mechanics down and playtesting has given them enough positive feedback to feel confident in moving forward. As a result, playtesting will broaden and future tests will include the whole game ecosystem. This change also means we should expect more frequent playtests.
In a new video announcing the closed beta decision, the team dives into what makes the game special, what it means to take the extraction genre in a more colorful direction, with brawl style gameplay and RPG systems. League of Legends meets Tarkov are some of the comparisons, but Elodie emphasizes that they're trying to make extraction and MOBA style play more accessible to get into.
There are three maps, supporting different aspects of the game loop. The first map is capped and lets you start building up a stash. The second map is uncapped and is designed to facilitate boss fights and gear drops. So once you're all geared up, the third map is more high risk, high reward and designed for the more advanced player.
They reveal that Seekers of Skyveil originally had more of a PVE focus, but teamfights were too fun, so here we are. Seekers each offer unique Ways of playing the game, increasing variety. Strix, the Seeker they most recently tested is an owl archer, and their longest range character so if you really enjoy keeping back and making precise shots, maybe he's for you.

The potential for manipulating the genre via heroes also comes up. Something like if one character could steal from others’ bags or manipulate the map. These are early but it's something they're looking into.
The next North American playtest is happening this week on Thursday and Friday. This is the first two-day playtest that they've held since June. They will have both the capped and uncapped maps on for the whole test. They'll also begin rolling out the closed alpha reward, A celebratory emote, and there will be Twitch Drops on for streaming partners.
