If you weren’t in attendance at RuneFest early this month, while Jagex did share details and clips from the big announcements, now they have videos of the panels from the con. Videos of a RuneScape lore panel, one on the upcoming Havenhythe expansion announced there, a PvM panel, and more, are now available to watch.
The lore panel had various team members discussing their experiences working on RuneScape storytelling, quest design, how everything meshes with the narrative and otherwise balancing gameplay needs and mechanics with rich storytelling.
RuneScape has changed over time and there are also conversation parts of the conversation that touch on why certain things remain while other things have changed, why some features like Monolith usage are still there. They go into a deeper discussion of challenges when it comes to worldbuilding, designing new regions, how expansions are shaped by an impact lore going forward, and much more.

Of course, there's a lot of discussion of the community, player expectations, and the role all of that plays while they are creating content.
The panel on the Havenhythe expansion is one you’ll want to check out if you’re looking forward to the expansion, the setting, and narrative decisions that went into the expansion. One big reasons they selected Havenhythe was they needed space to expand to, and that will enable them to keep creating more content to explore. So, while a lot of the creative process is going on, one of the reasons why they chose this direction was a very practical one. Later they discuss what assessments went into this, what resources they had to work with, and much more on how to balance narrative decisions with very practical ones. And considierations on how to integrate it with previous releases. This panel is packed with info without actually giving everything away.
The rest of the panels are also worth exploring, there's one on combat, there's an art panel on how they're polishing up and improving Gilinor. There's also an expanded roadmap panel just talking about what's coming. You can see everything at this playlist, or start watching above.
