Sea of Thieves Unveils New System to Handle Rulebreakers, Offering Explanations and a Chance to Learn from Mistakes

Sea of Thieves has completely changed how the team handles those who break the game’s rules, moving from a three- strikes permanent ban policy to a new system that offers room to learn from mistakes or a bad day.

The team announced the completely new policy  based on  the Xbox points system (Rare is a Microsoft-owned studio, after all). Previously, after three strikes you would receive a permanent ban. Without warning, you might try to log in and get an error message and never find out exactly what you were accused of doing.  that third strike could even happen over an extremely minor infraction, and that is something they point out in deciding to overhaul the system.

Now, the system, which is now live, means that you can get 12 points in total before you get that permanent ban. Points per offense type vary. Saying something toxic, but not explicitly discriminatory (racist or homophobic, for example), gets you 1-3 points and 1-3 matching days suspended. It depends on the degree. If what you say is explicitly discriminatory or uses slurs, That might mean seven points and 7 days’ suspension.

You could get those 12 points in as little as two offenses (or one - cheating means 12 points and bye bye forever), versus the previous three strikes, but more likely, you’ll get a few chances to cool off and rethink your behavior.

Under the new system, you will see your enforcement status on your profile and you will get information on any offense you might have committed, where before people didn't even get explanations.
