In an announcement on Xbox Wire by Joe Neate, the Executive Producer from RARE, Sea of Thieves passed the 15 million player threshold. Several other details regarding the growing popularity were provided about Sea of Thieves, which launched on XBOX One way back in March of 2018.
Sea of Thieves is an online action-adventure game with a popularity that doesn’t appear to slowing. In fact, Sea of Thieves saw their most active month in June 2020, with over 3.3 million active players. Joe Neate thanked all players in the release stating:
On behalf of all of us at Rare, I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who’s ever played Sea of Thieves for helping to get us this far. It’s a game that we love making, and there’s plenty more to come. See you on the seas.
Sea of Thieves is one of many games that launched, and is available on Xbox Game Pass. How those millions of players divvy up between Game Pass subscribers and players that paid for the game was not provided in the statement. RARE also added Sea of Thieves to Steam in June, and provides full crossplay support. That being said, millions of active players are a good sign that RARE has done a tremendous job turning Sea of Thieves into a popular, and enjoyable game for many players. As previously reported, RARE is also planning to add custom servers that is aimed at giving the community more control about how they play. Well done RARE!
