Sea of Thieves Season 14 is a Bit of a Shipwreck as Rare Disables Features Due to Bugs and Exploits

Sea of Thieves Season 14 has been a bit of a shipwreck. Rare released the mischief making update last week and it was already missing a number of expected features, such as the ability to set traps and hang from ledges, but now the studio has also had to disable many of the update’s other features due to unforeseen knock on effects introduced by their addition.

These issues and the steps being taken were detailed in a new video featuring Sea of Thieves production director Drew Stevens, who notes that the addition of crouching in particular brought back a number of old exploits such as the ability to control air movement after being fired out of a cannon, weapon switch faster than designed, and even an invincibility exploit has emerged. The only features in Season 14 that remain active at this time are the new grappling gun and blowdart items.

Crouching and disguises have been disabled until further notice, though the team hopes to re-enable them as part of a hotfix set to drop next week. Previously promised features, such as trap laying and ledge hanging, are being eyed for the game’s next regular monthly update in November.

Sea of Thieves Season 14 is available now on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 5.
