The Xbox-published Sea of Thieves apparently is making some major waves with the PlayStation community, moving a reported million copies via the platform.
According to both Eurogamer and Windows Central, the pirate's life may be for more players than once imagined, as over one million sales have been reported since its launch onto PS5 earlier this year. Now, Sea of Thieves made its way to PlayStation 5 just four short months ago, meaning this is a major feat and milestone for Rare to surpass.
It is worth noting that at the time of writing, Microsoft has not confirmed whether or not this number is accurate, but there is a bit of a paper trail that may mean this is indeed a fact. The title was listed as one of PlayStation’s best selling games upon its launch, which is a bit ironic given it was an Xbox exclusive at one point. Not only that, but upon the title's initial release, it was reported that over 40 million pirates had set sail onto the high seas via Xbox alone, which further adds to Sea of Thieves’ success.
This is not the first once-exclusive title that Xbox has announced will be coming to the PlayStation console either, as during Opening Night Live at Gamescom 2024, it was revealed that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle would also be coming to PlayStation 5 in the spring of 2025. With the mention of all of these upcoming Xbox exclusive titles heading to PlayStation platforms, it’s safe to say that hopefully this is an ongoing trend to bring even more games to the masses as time goes on.
