Sea of Thieves is headed to PlayStation 5 on April 30th, and the team has a new PS5 trailer and a rundown of all the options, including some PS5 exclusives.
The release is part of Microsoft’s deal to release a few more first-party titles to additional platforms. Sea of Thieves on PlayStation 5 will let you have a choice of which platform you play on. Microsoft is scaling up their server infrastructure for the larger player pool, whether they want to play across platforms or not. There is cross-play, but you can turn that off if you’d like PlayStation-only waters.
On PlayStation 5, using the DualSense controller, you can use haptic feedback, adaptive triggers to really feel those shots you take, and the microphone and speaker will work for chat. Sea of Thieves is optimized for 60fps in 4k on PS5, but you have the option, if you own a supported TV for 120hz refresh rates at 1080p, which puts it on par with Xbox Series X.
Connect your Microsoft account with a PlayStation account and cross-progression means you can pick up and sail with your progress and all or most of your collection intact. Some of the platform-exclusive cosmetics and items won’t carry over, but these are limited, like Duke ship cosmetics from the Xbox launch. PlayStation 5 gets its own exclusives.
Preorder exclusives for PS5 include the Scarlet Storm Parakeet and four Ruby Viper weapons. If you’re part of the PS5 closed beta, there are also a couple of exclusive cosmetics on top of those. There are also some progression bonuses in retail if you help them work out any remaining issues in closed beta.
Those cosmetics, some Renown, and currency that will be part of the Season 11 seasonal progression track when the game launches. Closed beta also means 10 levels of Renown towards Season 12 progression, and you can make progress towards earning trophies, even though any trophies won't be unlocked until the retail version launches.
