The pirate's life must be a popular one, as Sea of Thieves has welcomed 40 million players since launch.
In a recent post made by Joe Neate, the Executive Producer of Sea of Thieves, it is revealed that the game reached a major milestone in terms of player base. This huge achievement comes right before the PlayStation 5 launch as well, meaning that there will be more pirates sailing the high seas than ever before.
Alongside this celebration, there is also a bit of an in-game party goin on, as Gold and Glory weekend is just a few days away; as Neate states:
“If you’re still working through Season 11’s 100 levels, this will be the perfect time to rake in that boosted Renown – along with gold, reputation and everything else. So take part, join us in both celebration of all our players and anticipation of those who are about to undertake their Maiden Voyage on PS5®, and we’ll see you on the seas!”
The PlayStation launch brings cross-play, new cosmetics, Renown and more, but for those who choose to pre-order, they will also receive a few exclusive items such as weapons and a Parakeet. Not to mention all of the new content that was revealed to come with season 12, 13 and 14 just a few weeks ago.
Sea of Thieves is also one of the first major Xbox first-party titles to come to PlayStation since Microsoft announced this shift in its release strategy earlier this year. Time will tell whether its success on the new platform will signal future titles coming to PlayStation from the Xbox maker.
