The Hoarder’s Hunt, Sea of Thieves’ second Mystery, is coming on May 11th. After teasing the upcoming new content with a brief intro teaser, the Rare team has released a look into the mystery via a new devblog and video.

Stage 1: Skin of Gold opens up for those that opt-into the mystery content. Since this is a pirate themed game and a new mystery, there's real treasure at stake. There will be puzzles and mysterious clues from the puppet master teased in the initial announcement, H, that will combine out of game puzzles and in-game content, specifically Voyages.

The fastest players to make it through all of the clues and complete the final stage of this mystery will get real rewards. The first set of clues will be online next Thursday and there will be four stages to this mystery, with each including an ARG clue hunt and a matching in-game Voyage. You'll need a keyword you discover from the real world clue to unlock the Voyage every time.

Those stages are: “Skin of Gold, A Feathered Fortune, Portrait of Plunder and The Crowning Glory”. The entire thing is “a tribute to treasure hunting” and getting acquainted with material, both media, and historical, named in the announcement is probably worth your time.

Eventually, the final stage will be unlocked for those who've solved every previous step and there will be a race to a golden key in the game.

The first eligible person to complete the last Voyage wins a special prize, a recreation of the Gold Hoarder’s Skull with real gold. The prize also includes four gold keys that you can share with your crewmates. There are other real world prizes for 110 more winners along with in-game prizes. Those in-game prizes include titles, gold, trinkets, and more. During the whole Mystery event, washed up Bullion Crowns will start appearing throughout the world and you can trade them in to the Gold Hoarders. Not bad for some travel time.
