A free DLC release for acclaimed RPG Sea of Stars is coming next spring. Throes of the Watchmaker was revealed in a Nintendo Direct today, along with a first look and more details.
The DLC will release on all platforms sometime in spring 2025 and will feature Valere and Zale returning to the Watchmaker, a memorable character in the turn-based RPG. They head to Horloge, a miniature–and magical–clockwork world in danger from a cursed carnival and its villainous troupe. The carnival twists things and this means that our dual protagonists will have to adapt in their quest for the pocket watch.
Adaptation means entirely new playable classes and a new playable character too. Valere will trade in her staff for skill as an acrobat, and Zale will become a juggler. They’ll have to use these new skills to fight the circus curse, with new skills, attack types, and combos to master. The new character, Arty the Artificer, a sharp shooting robot with a laser, will be there to shake things up in your party. There are a number of enemies and bosses to face, additional areas, puzzles, and more to discover.
Expect new dungeons, NPCs, and environments in line with the cursed circus theme. The DLC trailer gives a taste of the threat at hand.
Throes of the Watchmaker arrives after Sea of Stars gets a local co-op update for the main game in Q4. That update will let three players play through the main adventure together, and that option will continue in the upcoming DLC. In co-op mode, each player will have to use a new co-op timed hits mechanic to keep things in line with the original game, while adding local multiplayer.
For the DLC, composer Eric E. Brown will return, along with more contributions from Yasunori Mitsuda.
