In their weekly update, Jagex outlined some of the changes coming this month to RuneScape, namely changes being made to mining and smithing.

In a post on the official RuneScape website, the team outlined many of the changes coming to these two activities, such as making Mining "much more reliant on stamina." The change makes it so when you're at zero stamina you no longer do 80% damage to the rock you're mining, rather only 20%. The change also can potentially increase the value of stone spirits as miners can restore stamina while mining by taking a stone spirit when under the influence of a Perfect JuJu Mining potion.

Smithing aficionados will find that items they disassemble will be improved, specifically for those components used in Invention.

"Back at the forge, we’ve also made some improvements to the way smithable items disassemble into components for Invention. From now on, each bar used to smith an item will be worth four Invention parts or components when you break it down. For example, a 2-handed sword with no upgrades, which costs four bars to create, will give 16 parts or components."

Smithing will also see changes to Elder Rune equipment, which will now have a higher chance of breaking down into its component parts. As a result of these changes, Jagex is adjusting the Breakdown perk's activation change to a flat 0.8% per rank to make up for the change.

In addition to these changes which took affect February 3rd, players in RuneScape can expect to see a Double XP Weekend: Extended coming starting on February 21st. With this event, the weekend has been extended, with 48 hours of Double XP time spread across 10 days.
