RuneScape has its fourth Rex Matriarch to challenge everyone who has been keeping up with their Necromancy skills. Osseous, the latest boss encounter, is here, and the team has a new dev diary on everything you need to know to take her on.

Following the other combat styles getting a Rex Matriarch of their own to challenge, now it’s Necromancy’s turn. Take on a short quest from the archaeologist at the Anachronia base camp to get started, and head through the Rex Matriarchs’ lair. Not only will there be a new challenge, you will make a real impact when you explore the lair on the archaeologist's behalf. This just means you can start something and have some fun finishing it.

There’s a new dev diary to introduce the boss and quest and how the newest challenge came about. The decision to make a boss to challenge the Necromancy style came as a result of one the team’s game jam sessions. Through this, they decided to blend the original Rex Matriarch concept and expanded it to the first new combat style that the team has ever added. “Osseous gave us the opportunity to flesh out a preexisting area and make something that's fun, a bit more hands on, and also rewarding,” they note in the video. Plan to continue expanding necromancy with additional content in the future.

As for the actual boss encounter, Osseous is designed as a mid-level boss encounter, taking inspiration from those original Matriarchs while also designed to be challenging but also “more approachable than the biggest late game bosses”. Prepare for tail strikes, summoned minions that want to bite your ankles, and even ranged projectiles.  the challenge is designed to test your ability to strategically manage prioritizing your enemies, evading attacks, and unleashing your own damage at the right time.

If you succeed, there are a number of rewards awaiting, including the Occultist's Ring, a combat ring that will boost Necromancy damage by +30. A brand new boss pet will add to any collection of  mini dino pets, and you’ll even get a chance to free up to three additional baby dino pets with the Jail Cell Keys you can find. You can even get a new title, The Skeletal.
