RuneScape is making for a merry holiday season with a revamped Christmas event. Does the opportunity to get your hands on a black partyhat get the holiday cheer flowing in you? Well, it’s back, along with many more surprises and gift opportunities.

The team is going big, with a fresh seasonal quest, a dedicated hub for all things Christmas, the Christmas Village as well as the aforementioned opportunity to get the black partyhat for members. In the village, you’ll find the new Christmas quest, seasonal activities like ice fishing and making Christmas decorations, a new Christmas Spirit shop with some classic rewards on offer, Santa’s Lodge (with Santa visiting each Sunday from 8-10 pm game time), and much more. Including a giant present that will appear on December 25th through January 4th that you'll be able to open and see what's inside.

Christmas Spirit is low across Gielinor, and it’s your turn to help Santa restore it. The new event quest lets you spread holiday cheer by decorating several areas with tinsel and lights to make sure everything is festive and merry. Then you'll help Santa deliver presents. Complete the quest, and your own gifts will arrive, including a winter scarf and hat, Santa’s Little Helper outfit, and a Christmas override for Fort Forinthry to take some of that festive cheer with you.

Christmas Spirit isn’t just a mood, as it is a holiday currency. You’ll get some for completing the event quest, as well as other activities in the Christmas Village.

Once you’ve begun amassing it, you can drop by the Christmas Spirit store to trade for rewards. Go ice fishing, craft some snowballs, make decorations, and catch Snow Implings that are slacking off and more to earn more. The Christmas Village and this store are planned to return so if you miss out on any of the rewards this year, you'll have another chance every year.

The black partyhat is indeed going to be obtainable from the Christmas event for the first time since 2001. You'll have to be on Santa's Nice List. The only way to have a chance at a hat is through gameplay, with no paid ways to get a better chance.

The team is going to remain alert to be sure the hat remains rare, but for this brief period, accessible once more. “As this is a first for us, we'll be closely monitoring the drop rate of the black partyhat to ensure it's just right - if we need to make any adjustments, we'll let you know.”

There’s a lot more going on in this packed Christmas event, with guaranteed cosmetic gifts for all aside from the chance to be a very lucky hat recipient.
