Necromancy is coming to RuneScape on August 7th. Jagex has a “pre-launch” week to get everyone set up and ready for the huge update on the way.
The team has been sharing a series of guides and things you need to know before you want to get started in the Necromancy update, with the new season that will begin.
A series of previews are also here to help guide anyone curious about the upcoming update, mechanics to expect, and just how things will work. Since Necromancy is not just a new skill, it is the fourth combat style, this series of previews will give you some valuable insight into just what awaits Gielinor next week.
The latest preview is all about combat. RuneScape has never added a new combat style in its over two-decade run. They decided it was the right time to take on something new and to innovate, in addition to making sure that adding a new style like this would be accessible to new players as well as veterans. Additionally, they wanted to make sure that even a more casual player could still enjoy themselves, with the new tutorial, and a few other design choices.
For this, Necromancy will be a free skill up to level 20, letting anyone get in and try out the new style. No prerequisites since it’s not an Elite skill. Necromancy will go to 120, so there's plenty of room for members to continue to advance and skill up. Combat level will cap at 152.
Another difference? Clarity in abilities.
“We've also moved away from Thresholds in this new Combat Style, as their complexity in adrenaline requirement and cost didn't fit - instead, we're focusing on more standard abilities that simply do what they say, giving you a clearer picture of when is best to use each ability to wreak havoc on your foes.”
The team has designed ability unlocks at a pace where you will have enough time to really get to understand and learn each new ability. Another design choice was to make manual skills easier and more rewarding, while also letting those players who use revolution still have a viable option here.
Necromancy will also introduce new main and offhand weapons, and there will be intricacies to learn there too. The Skull Lantern will be one of the most important, since this offhand weapon will bring those souls that you free from Rasial, the First Necromancer over to you, and then you'll be able to conjure and enlist them to help you. Eventually, you'll be able to conjure three at the same time for a small undead squad.
