Sanctum of Rebirth, RuneScape’s first-ever boss dungeon, is live today. Don't worry about mobs or any other distractions in the dungeon, because it's just three bosses in back to back encounters.
The dungeon is located within the Underworld. In order to gain access to it, you'll have to complete a short quest. You'll investigate the Sanctum as part of the quest, which is designed to get you to the real challenge quickly.
There are no other enemies to fight between the bosses, so be prepared. The team had kept one of the bosses secret before, but they’ve unveiled all three now: Vermyx, Brood Mother, Kezalam the Wanderer, and Nakatra, Devourerer Eternal.
The first is a huge devourer wyrm that protects the entrance to the sanctum itself, so if you're going to take on this challenge, you have to get past her first. Kezalam is a large beast that will continue to try and destroy you if you get to her. Finally, Nakatra is a follower of Amascut and a founding member of the Order of Slayer Masters. She controls the power within the Sanctum.
On normal mode, if you die, you’ll rise with a resurrection sickness debuff that drastically cuts your damage output temporarily. You can fall in battle three times and come back with the debuff, but if you die a fourth time, you will be sent outside of the encounter but it's a safe death so you won't have to worry about your items.
Of course the bigger the risk, the bigger the reward so you can choose to challenge the dungeon on hard mode. This will be a classic Hard mode, with no change to death mechanics. You’re out when you’re out. For one week after launch, however, Death won’t charge anything to restore your items.
The dungeon can be taken on solo or with a group of up to four players. Jagex sought feedback from the community and beta testers to refine the concept and to weigh in on a new death mechanic and on the T95 Magic Weapons you’ve got a chance to get in both modes. Other rewards include a new prayer, Divine Rage, that will boost all combat styles, and several Hard mode exclusives..
