Necromancy is coming to RuneScape on August 7th, and the team is now giving more details on some of the elements to expect with the new skill and combat style. This time, they go into rituals, the Skilling pillar of Necromancy and how you can use it.
As revealed in the release date stream, the Necromancy story involves Death asking you for help, as Rasial, the First Necromancer is taking the souls from the underworld. Including the City of Um, which he's emptied it out, part of your job will be to free the undead from Rasial, restore them back to where they belong and do it by partnering with the undead yourself.
Rituals are the Skilling activity key to Necromancy. By scaling up in rituals, you will produce resources that you use in combat, as well as being able to attract the undead back to the Well of Souls to get them back to the city. The Well of Souls itself is at the Ritual Site, a non-instanced area you’ll likely find other necromancers using.
There are certain requirements you must meet in order to perform a ritual, including setting up the Ritual Site with a fw required components. Glyphs are written in the language of the dead in Ghostly ink. This can get more complex later. Light sources are needed, along with a Focus–input items.
You will be able to choose an input option in order to receive certain rewards as your output. Focus, known as input, changes based on the ritual’s intent. One example shown is using a bone in the ritual in exchange for 175 necromancy xp, one ectoplasm, and one soul added to the Well of Souls.
While you are in the process, there are potential surprises.
“Soul Attraction percentage is an indication of the chance and types of random events that could occur, housed at the top of your screen. These random events throughout your Ritual can be interacted with for a chance to gain extra rewards, from XP bonuses to additional resources.”
As you level the Necromancy skill, more complex rituals will become available. Further, by using glyphs, especially once you gain access to bonus forms, you will be able to customize certain elements of your rituals in order to adapt to a certain playstyle or preferences on your build.
