Early Access RTS title Stormgate is now live for those who backed the Kickstarter project or bought one of the Early Access bundles on Steam in what Frost Giant is calling an Early Access Preview.
The full free-to-play Early Access launch will kick off on August 13th, but the preview is giving those players who bought in on Frost Giant's sci-fi and fantasy fueled RTS a two-week preview ahead of its eventual wider release. The RTS, which was built by veterans of the genre who worked on games such as StarCraft II, Command & Conquer and Warcraft III, is described by the studio as a "love letter" to the enduring PC genre.
Via the Steam Page:
"Stormgate is Frost Giant Studios' love letter to classic RTS games and a work of passion and dedication from our team. Early Access is an essential milestone in our journey, but far from the final destination. This initial release, which features competitive 1v1, the start of our ever-evolving campaign, 3P co-op missions, and custom games, is only the beginning. We plan on telling more stories, introducing new game modes, and sharing the tools we've been using to build our game with the community."
Launching into Early Access as a free-to-play title, players can take the role of one of three factions from the outset, set in a unique Science Fantasy world. Built using Unreal Engine 5, Stormgate will take players to a post-apocalyptic Earth and be tasked to do all the things RTS games typically ask their players to do: gather resources, build a base, and take out your rivals.
However, while RTS games can, at times, be a bit of an impenetrable wall for those unfamiliar with the genre, Stormgate aims to break that barrier down and make the genre more accessible. Via Frost Giant Studios:
"Stormgate also breaks down barriers to entry and makes RTS more approachable by eliminating unnecessary complexity, emphasizing social and cooperative play, and providing an improved onboarding experience bolstered by comprehensive learning and spectating tools."
You can check out Stormgate starting today if you've purchased an Early Access pack on Steam, or backed the project's Kickstarter. Early Access packs include a hero character for use in the three-player co-op mode, as well as the first few missions of a faction-specific campaign, as well as cosmetics for your army to use in battle. To celebrate today's launch into Early Access Preview, the studio has enabled Twitch Drops, giving viewers three exclusive cosmetics for watching partnered streams.
