Richard Garriott's Official Shroud of the Avatar Description Eliminates 'CEO' Title

UPDATED: Here is information we received from Portalarium:

  • Richard Garriott hasn't "resigned" his position, but the team has discarded all the "officer titles"
  • Primary roles are: Richard, Creative Director; Starr Long as Executive Producer; Chris Spears as Technical Director
  • The team is focused on Episode 2 and rolling out monthly updates

Garriott wrote last night: "As we have adjusted our direction and team to focus on Episode 2 we have decided to eliminate any titles and positions with the word Officer, including my own which was CEO. This leaves me to focus on my true role as Creative Director while Chris Spears and Starr Long can focus on the running of the team."

Richard Garriott's official profile on the Shroud of the Avatar site now omits the title CEO, something that has been part of the description since the game's pages were first published. SEC filings name Garriott as CEO, though Delaware, where the original corporation paperwork was filed, does require an executive officer, though not specifically a "CEO". At the moment, Garriott's profile only lists him as Creative Director and Founder.

No official announcement has been made, including the resignation earlier this year of Dallas Snell. We've reached out to Portalarium for comment and will update the article as necessary.
