Report: Microsoft Looking At Bringing First-Party Xbox Titles To PlayStation, Including Starfield

Despite spending billions in acquisitions, it seems that many of the first-party titles exclusive to Xbox might be making their way to rival Sony’s PlayStation 5, if new reports are to be believed.

Starfield was initially released back in September 2023, and though it was an extremely anticipated game prior to launch, its popularity waned pretty quickly after launch. Even so, it was the largest launch in Bethesda’s history, with over 6 million players in the game within just seven days of its release.

With that said, it appears that Microsoft may not be keeping the “exclusive” factor of the game to just their consoles, and it could be heading to PlayStation 5. According to XboxEra, who is reportedly working off their own independent sources, the leaders of Microsoft have been weighing the pros and cons of releasing more of their exclusive content onto other platforms, and even though not everyone is in agreement with this strategy, the money being lost from exclusivity seems to be the nail in the coffin on this decision.

This isn’t the first game that Microsoft may be considering to bring to another platform, as several other sources have reported on other exclusive titles to the PlayStation 5. Take Indiana Jones and the Great Circle for example, which was just showcased during the Xbox Direct Event last month.

TheVerge mentions that their sources say this addition of games to multiple platforms is becoming a trend for Microsoft, though there is no definitive proof as of yet there are plenty of rumors. Meanwhile, VGC reports the Gears franchise  is among the different games that might end up on the PlayStation 5 in the future.

Microsoft has yet to directly respond to the reports circulating, but a Tweet from Xbox head Phil Spencer seemingly addresses the confusion they’ve caused, with the Xbox Exec stating that they will be clarifying the “vision” for the “future of Xbox” next week.
