Reign of Guilds, an action MMORPG developed by indie studio Atlant Games, has been garnering attention from their fans recently by releasing more details about their strong emphasis on player interactions, such as politics, crafting, trading, sieges, and territorial and economic struggles. This first-person game, created by the small team at Atlant Games Ltd aims to bring a new level of realism and immersion to the massively multiplayer online role-playing game scene.
Recently, the developers announced that they have completed the most lengthy and complex stage of development, moving on to active testing and refining of mechanics based on user feedback. Playtests have been open to all interested parties, with the next playtest scheduled for Monday, April 24th.
Previous playtests include:
- Playtest #1: Basic server testing, which took place from January 8th to 10th.
- Playtest #2: Mechanics testing of the starting island, which occurred from February 4th to 16th.
Upcoming playtests are as follows:
- Playtest #3: Open-world testing, including PvP mechanics and sieges, slated for April 24th through May 7th.
- Playtest #4: General game mechanics testing, with a date yet to be announced.
The game is set to enter Early Access in the first half of 2023.
During the third playtest, players will be able to leave the starting island and explore one of the counties on the mainland. The area of a county is more than 20 times larger than the starting island, offering ample space for players to engage in open-world PvP following a karma system. Castles will also be available for guilds to compete over, promising thrilling battles and tactical gameplay.
In addition to new areas and gameplay opportunities, the developers have made significant improvements to server stability, artificial intelligence for in-game creatures, balance, lighting, weather, and visual effects.
Reign of Guilds will be available on Steam, and the game client is already available for download. On April 24th, all interested players will be able to join the game and test.
As part of the siege and political game play, the team has stated that after the start of Early Access, one of the 'counts', which is a position that is held by a player, will be able to claim the royal throne, making decisions on a much larger scale.
The team has also stated that the game's leveling system shares similarities with The Elder Scrolls series. Reign of Guilds features eight attributes – four physical and four magical. For instance, wielding a club will increase strength, while casting fireballs will enhance the fire attribute. This dynamic system encourages players to develop their characters based on their preferred playstyles.
Reign of Guilds shows great potential as an action MMORPG that emphasizes meaningful player interactions and diverse gameplay experiences. Whether the game will actually deliver on those promises is yet to be seen. With its dedicated indie development team and what the development team insists is strong community engagement, this game is hoping to make waves in the genre when it becomes available in Early Access.
