Reign of Guilds Addresses AoE Ability XP Exploits, Opts for XP Rollbacks and Small Bans Instead of Permanent Bans

Permabans are not on the table

After a major exploit showed up in a recent patch of Reign of Guilds, the devs have put out a blog post on Steam addressing what happened—and what will happen to those who opted to tap into it.

In short, there were a few AoE abilities that gave way more XP than they intended, which in turn allowed players to basically grind XP at unintentionally quick rates. Analysis showed that players took part in different levels and intensities of exploitation, from a “high degree” where it was pretty obvious the players focused on this, to “nearly nonexistent” where players probably didn’t even realize it, or just opted to play as normal.

As a result of this analysis, XP gains will be adjusted. Those who weren’t obviously exploiting the bug will just have the XP adjusted as if the gains were normal, though there are more severe adjustments made for those who were participating more heavily.

All 29 players who were seen as having utilized the exploit are also listed on the page, displaying the adjustments and bans.

Granted, the game still only peaked at 585 players months ago per Steam charts, and 60 in the past month, so it’s not like banning a sizable fraction of the current player base is a great idea. They essentially say as much: “We decided against permanent bans because the time we’ll set players back with is much more valuable than the game copy,” the blog explains.
