Races Explored - 3 Types, 3 Different Stories

The Fractured team reached out to us earlier today with news about the first-ever developer blog post on the SpatialOS-based sandbox MMO. According to the first sentences, the team is out to "innovate the MMO genre" and one way to do that is to have races with vastly different experiences in the game. In Fractured, races will matter and be an important aspect of a player's entire experience.

In Fractured, that’s a whole different story. The choice of your race determines:

  • The planet you start in – which in turn means you’ll be surrounded by radically different environments and have access to entirely different resources.
  • What type of abilities, spells, and crafting proficiencies are easily available to you, and which ones on the other hand require a hell of an effort to be discovered.
  • How your villages and towns will look like, what buildings you’ll be able to erect and NPCs you’ll be able to hire.
  • The society your character lives in, which dictates how you can interact with other players. Can you perform hostile actions like stealing and murdering? And if so, what are the consequences – if any?
  • The gods you can pray to and how they intervene in your mortal matters.
  • How easy it is to travel to other planets, how well you are received by other races… and much more!

There will be three different races in Fractured: Humans, Demons and Beastmen, each of which gets a brief lore story to provide context and background.

  • Beastmen are tribal with a deep connection to nature. They are led by a High Druid, wear light armor and have an affinity with Druidic magic. Within Beastmen, there are four families, each with their own strengths and weaknesses: Chadra (Tiger-kin), Udoadra (Wolf-kin), Nheedra (Bear-kin) and Erwydra (Hart-kin).
  • Demons survive on a "hostile and resource-deprived planet". They are, of course, aligned with evil and are a blood-thirsty race. Their society is lawless and crave power and dominance. They are divided into three families: Blood Demons (Vampires), Shadow Demons (Nightmares), and Hellfire Demons (Infernals).
  • Humans are curious and inquisitive without the more prodigious physical advantages of the other two races. They can, however, be part of either combat or magical knowledge. They are aligned along a feudal society and can produce technological items to enhance homes, cities and bodies.

You can read the full and very interesting post on the Fractured site.

Thanks to Dynamight Studios for reaching out!
