For those who got excited at the thought of Grinding Gear Games releasing a Path of Exile II early access signup and put their information in, it might be time for a Steam password change, as the devs' Steam account has been compromised.

Over the weekend, as spotted first by MMO Fallout, the developers at Grinding Gear Games released an Early Access signup on Steam for Path of Exile II, or so we thought. The developers state:

“Earlier today, a malicious news post containing a phishing link went up on the Path of Exile Steam page from a compromised account. The post was taken down quickly, but if you followed the link or suspect your account may also be compromised, please take immediate action to secure your account.”

Not only did the hackers add a signup for Early Access, they even went as far as to curate a fake news post stating that the applications were open, and gave players hope that they could dive into Path of Exile II before the full release. The link brought people to a website with an application form, so if you did end up putting your information into the fields, it might be a good idea to change your Steam information and check your PC for any malicious spyware or viruses.

The free-to-play action RPG has no set release date as of yet, which may have prompted several fans to get a bit overzealous when they saw the early access signups, but no need to worry, the real thing will be here soon enough.
