Profane Devs Announce Next Phase, Faster Content, and More Frequent Playtests

The Profane team has announced a new direction that will Help them refine development in their next phase and expand testing.

In a new video called “Next steps of development”, the company’s community manager, CEO, and Head of Product discuss what they have learned, where they feel like they’re lacking, and what we can expect as they seek to improve.

The team has spent a lot of time working on content and integrating that into some of the other features that they keep continuously updating on the roadmap. One of the consequences of focusing on adding content and features is that testing and refinements fell behind

Step one is going to be more frequent testing. Since they've added a bunch of stuff, it's been a while since they've  held testing so they're going to resume regular testing. Part of what they've worked on was developing a series of tools that made content production a little faster and more practical. This means new content is faster to develop and thus, more frequent testing would logically follow, as part of this new overall move.

Not only do they plan for overall testing for player experience, and to make sure everything fits together and works as expected (and is fun!), there may be smaller, more specific tests for things like combat. While some of the content is now much faster to make, some still takes time to produce, so the schedules will vary.

Improvements are going to impact the speed of content delivery, but they're looking to improve the AI infection systems in order to create a better overall experience. Community feedback is key, and that of course is integral to testing.

So what can we expect? They have a lot of new things that need optimization and so they're going to start  end with initial testing to work through some of what they've added. overall testing will have a reduced frequency to start, but shorter duration between each test as they optimize the game and also continue adding new features.  they're aiming for some level of consistent testing with longer duration eventually.

If you’re interested in the intricacies of development on the independent sandbox MMORPG, the full conversation will fill in some more details on their plans.
